Biography

Samuel M. Lewis is a Colombian-Jewish writer born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin. That’s right, he’s a Cheesehead, (and perhaps a little too proud of it…). From a very young age he spent his time in a wide variety of social groups in vastly different atmospheres, ranging from the mean streets to the country club. Because of this, Sam has a unique ability to write genuine and believable characters who come from all different walks of life, with a heavy focus on raw & authentic dialogue. He very much enjoys developing roles that take on the "anti-hero" persona because he finds that their internal struggles, demons, and sometimes inability to rise above obstacles in certain crucial moments, makes for a deeper connection between the audience and the story’s protagonist. Sam found from a young age that he tends to view the world, specifically human interactions, from a unique point of view. Because of this, paired with heavy influences from many of the world’s best comedic playwrights, his writing often contains a great sense of ironic, and at times even absurd humor that still feels grounded and believable. He accomplishes this by always asking himself: how can I make this tragic scene a bit funnier and how can I make this comedic scene a bit more tragic? He has found that applying this formula to his writing adds higher levels of depth and complexity to his characters and how they perceive their world/circumstances.

Sam moved to Los Angeles after earning his BFA in Salem, MA, where he learned more than he ever wanted to about witches, wiccans, and the power of healing crystals… He comes from a writing family, his grandmother and father both being award winning novelists - his father publishing 6 novels, two of which were made into major motion pictures starring Elvis Presley, Warren Beatty, and Jean Seberg.
